I wondered too about that current capacity.  IIR means that at 50 ohms load, the watts output get 
big fast. That the IF section has a higher amp meter now makes sense to me. Where you can have
some really low antenna impedance. 
GO i think are fascinating attractive beasts, but....i have quite enough fascinating projects on the 
plate as is, so i must be strong.
