I have thought that many electronic products could use better battery warnings. Maybe a moisture detector maybe audible beeper. With the "Joule thief" circuit able to work down to a fractional volt, this should be possible.
I will forever remember looking at a flashlight my lady friend had. When i unscrewed the bottom, i got a handful of corrosive liquid, and enough on my pants crotch too. I should have noted the battery brand, but i was in a hurry to just get them to the garbage. It looked like her ex had replaced the flash's bulb with a high output, high current type that would kill the batteries in a hurry. Possibly that insane current draw contributed to the battery leakage?
Now this subject has given me one more thing to worry about. What brand battery is in that machine, and whem did i last check it?
I think some test sets for example should have an external, visible battery holder. For example, the AAA LCR meter. Why not have a 9 volt battery holder on the outside, instead you having to open it up? Or the Millen s-s dip meter; you have to unscrew 4 screws and pop apart the cabinet to have a look at the single 9 battery. Some of these i will modify for external battery.
