Well, in my experience, the "regenertaive IF" does work, but not in any way that is useful. For 
one thing, it really only works somewhat well with weak signals, whereas we really need it to 
work when signals are strong. Furthermore, the strong signals reduce its selectivity right 
when we need that to hear a weak signal.

It essentially works exactly the reverse of what we want it to.

It simply is not worth the effort.
