Have to hand it to the “JA” being it’s a cool looking offshoot! Further examination not only reveals seven pin tubes and a rotary drum for the front end but also smaller IF cans and what appears to be a VR tube in the power supply, note that the main deck is built that way and not a modified plate. Wonder why when the US industry quickly left the BC-342/312 design behind and replaced them with radios like the R-388 the Japanese kept perfecting that obsolete US design?
I have seen things like the replacement assemblies for PRC-25/77 radios that were built by Tadiran in Israel that fit in the same location and replace the US assemblies with modern electronics, like integrated circuits and silicon devices but this BC-342 is an almost completely different radio on the inside but relatively the same on the outside.
Off topic subject! How in the hell do you pronounce “Tadiran”? Been lots of fights around here and at Fest, is it pronounced different in Israeli and English?
