[Milsurplus] GP with ARB?

I recall reading Mike Hanz commenting some years back that the ARB was intended as a drop-in replacement for the RU.
So wouldn't be too much of a fantasy to fabricate a ARB + GF, altho in real life, I don't think anyone ever saw such. 
Same form factor, and so on.
That reminds me, some acquaintance of Geoff's bought something like a "State of Alaska"  "portable set" with an ARB 
and ( I think ) TA-12 in one wooden trunk.
