My ladyfriend lives in Yachats, Oregon, a little touristy Oregon coast town of about 500 people.
Last summer we did a hike and went up the hill just west of the town. There is a road at top, "Radar Road", and as I recall,
sometime during the rearmament or early WW2, there was an actual Army radar there. Nothing remains, not a clue other
than the road name, and now the site has a water tower. I understand the Oregon coast had at least one other radar,
possibly Astoria, possibly one more? Something I need to look into again as this is a mostly forgotten aspect of local history.
Perhaps the radar was the same type, SCR-270 ?
Yachats also figures in a story similar to the "Trail of Tears" history of the eastern states. There is a memorial plaque at one
point on the "Amanda Trail" and wanting to know more, I looked up a quote on this plaque and bought a book of the journal
of one of the accompanying soldiers. There was mean and callous treatment aplenty in those times, but I think the term
"genocide" is too readily used nowadays, but that is not a popular opinion.
