"Upon viewing the video that shows the aircraft prior to impact, I 
conclude that the apparently large speed difference between the two 
aircraft lead to the situation where the King Cobra pilot could not 
react fast enough to avoid the collision."

Looking at the banking of the P-63, I doubt the pilot could even see the 
B-17, it was underneath, and he plopped right on top of it.  The '17 
sure went down fast.
