[Milsurplus] NESTOR: AN/PRC-77 with TSEC/KY-38

what about if you do a clear (PT) call to establish the QSO, switch to cypher (CT) and back to clear at the end for legal ID? also, can't see this happening being wide band FM on a couple PRC-77 being anything beyond local use on 51.0 as a simple demo.

You don't often get email from r390a.urr at gmail.com. Learn why this is important<https://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification>

Ray, unless I'm mistaken, FCC regs do not permit encrypted transmissions on the amateur bands.

NSA has a KY-38 or two at the museum, think they may also have a KY-8 thinking that may be the box that went with the VRC-12. May be worth a trip over to the museum next time in town to take a look. Would be a lot of fun to try setting up a QSO between a couple radios running first generation NESTOR technology, think all that sort of stuff is no longer considered secure or classified now, don’t know about the KY-57 VINSON but think last I saw anything about that they say its also no longer classified too.

Think the appeal of the NESTOR box is that it appears to use a paper or punched load card or something like that and did not require a dedicated load tool like later systems.
