One of the more interesting and instructional
economic lessons I have learned was about one
airline that did a economic study regarding
aircraft routes that sometimes had very little
passenger traffic. The airline in question (I
forget which one is was) found out that it was
cheaper for them to fly the route (I.E. they lost
less money) with NO passengers than to ground/not
fly the aircraft and pay the costs associated
with that. Manytimes it's cheaper for you in the
long run to get rid of something for a cheaper
price than let it set around for a long time and never sell it. YMMV.
