[Milsurplus] Costal Forts on the air in April

I am thinking that channel 3 5.357 USB will be the best choice being that during the daytime there is not much digital traffic and have had some success running sixty meters for regional contacts. Also have that channel in my backpack radio and as long as I can get Walt on site to run net control from Fort Miles would like to do the pedestrian mobile thing from one of the observation towers along the coast. Just need to see if can get someone to do South Jersey or Hampton/Norfolk.

Ray,
I do lots of operating from Sandy Hook. I operate into the Moose and Squirrel net with a Hustler on the car and 50 watts from my FT-897. I will put April 22 and 23 in my calendar. I can also operate 17 meters but since I am battery powered the 3.885 AM net would be problematic.

> We can activate Fort Miles and I can go down to the WW2 Observation tower just below Dewey Beach and operate from that location, there is also the Observation tower located just across the Bay or Battery 223 on the beach over in Cape May NJ. Anything located in the central east coast would be up as an option. Couple that come to mind would be Fort Hancock at Sandy Hook NJ and Fort Monroe down at Hampton Roads Virginia.
> Think we can use channel 3, 5.357 USB, think that 3.885 AM would be an issue being there is always someone or something going on there. 17 meters, 18.150 may be a possibility being I have been playing around a lot with that band. its USB, short vertical antennas work well there and the daytime propagation is just like twenty without all the traffic.
> The biggest problem I have is that my backpack only has rocks for 3.885 or 5.357 so if I go in the field my options are limited.
> Let's see if there is any interest, remember that field radios are happier in the field and not on the shelf.
