I think i would also post this question on the G503 military vehicle enthusiast site, on the "Radio's" ( their spelling ) forum. There are ppl there really into detail like that. I think you can probably just use any TBY-* version manual. The dial lights on the early contracts are the only real difference.
Btw, one of the military history magazines now out has a decent article on "Communications snafu at Tarawa". Not actual title, and as i have great disorder here as i go thru books for disposal, i can't find it right now. I seem to recall it said Navy started buying TBY in 1940. That means shortly after Westinghouse announced this model 'HR' radio for the civilian organizations market the same year. The Navy had the TBY top frequency raised. Maybe the HR was even one single band.
