I'm not sure how much is new and how much is just reporting. But either 
way, I agree with your conclusion - the increasingly high cost of 
shipping is also a factor.   At Xenia I was trying to negotiate $50 of 
the price of a radio and the seller just looked at me as asked "Do you 
think you could ship one of these for fifty bucks?".     I paid the 
asking price.

As has always been the case, the scarcity of an item and it's condition 
are going to have a major impact on price.  That's why there's a bid 
over $125K for an Apple I on eBay right now and why a rusty beat-up 
radio that was sold in large quantities will always be hard to get much 
for.   As the financial guys always say "past results are no indication 
of future performance",  so even if a radio was "worth" a certain price 
in years past there's no assurance anyone will pay that much today.   Of 
course if you have one that someone put back in the box and stashed in 
the back of a closet...
