So that's the origin of the 'Battle of Britain and bilberry' story. I learned from that. As for the carrots & night vision myth, that seems to be really a laughable idea,
even in the WWII era. I've read some 'health literature' from the 1940s, and don't think any of them would hazard a claim like that. Now in the case of an actual vitamin A deficiency,
night vision won't be your only problem. Bilberry approximately equals blueberry, which is rich in antioxidants, but won't particularly support your vision either. 

I have in my to - scan pile, a British popular radio magazine from the mid - 1920s that shows a schematic or cutaway view of a magnetron. Of course I was surprised to see
this device shown at that date. Before posting this I had to take a look at Wiki and I see yes, the magnetron does date to the 1920s.
