[Milsurplus] DFing The LOs?

Hi,
This comes up every once in a while. Of course we can detect and DF the
local oscillator(s) in a receiver. But we have to be pretty close to it.
Any submarine would be close enough to see and hear any 'target' ships.
There has been no archival record of any submarine ever DFing a receiver
local oscillator and in fact some German U-boat commanders have stated
that the German U-Boat service dismissed it out of hand.
And then there is the offering for sale of SWR paint for CB'ers to
improve their antennas. I tried that and it just didn't work. Maybe it
only works on 11 meters. <evil grin>
