That fellow I mentioned earlier had a complete crystal-lapping machine.

OK. Yes, HF is very, very dangerous stuff.

Still, since Whink is sold in supermarkets, in the household cleanser department, mainly to 
those who have no experience at all with chemicals (in the full scentific sense of that word), 
i.e. mostly housewives, I felt that I could use it safely for etching crystals. So far, I have been 
correct.

Again, it is a 1% solution of HF and water.

Yet even at 1%, it does clean, and even etch crystals just fine....although slowly.

Since this discussion, I have become more determined than ever to go ahead with my 
project.

After all, crystals are a lot lighter, smaller, and require far less power than even a small VFO.
