[Milsurplus] Comments on defective crystals in FT-241 holders

I have not successfully "fixed" any defective crystals in FT-241 holders
yet.  But I have opened a few of them up.  I have found two cases.  A very
few have just been off frequency.  Most have also seemed to be oscillating
on two or more frequencies at the same time.  I have also found it difficult
to remove the outer cover without breaking both wires because the rubber
gasket has always been severely stuck.  So I made a mental note that before
I open up another one (if ever) that I would have to make some sort of a
jig.  In any case, what I have found was a dark green "growth" on both of
the sides of the blank.  However, this "growth" is totally hardened.  So I
am not certain that it shouldn't be there.  And I don't know what would
remove it without damage to the wires or the blank.
