[Milsurplus] Unknown Control Box

I found this control box, at a swap meet yesterday, in a box-full of 
homebrew kluges built into small Bud mini-boxes.  This one had been 
converted into a noise generator with a 9-volt battery and a 1N25 diode 
inside.  I'm reasonably sure that at least one of the switches and the 
pot. are not original.

Does anyone  know what equipment this control box was originally used
