For some unknown reason yesterday night I got to wondering about bandspreading the RU receiver.
A complication is that the oscillator runs at 1/2 the received frequency. The tuning cap is same size
each of 4 sections ( 3 RF and 1 osc. ). I tried looking at the coil schematics, not well rendered I think,
to see if the osc. sections were trimmed to tailor the 1/2 frequency tracking. I came to no conclusion
on this first pass. I was thinking we could possibly bandspread the 80 meter and 40 meter bands. The 
dial is strictly a 0 - 100 marked dial so there's no problem with dial nonmatching. To be revisited. I still
have enough RUGF gear to make a setup and the real machine - like appearance plus the plug in coils
thing still holds allure for me. Plus in high school days ages ago  I tried to use the GF transmitter on the
Novice ham band and got no replies. I imagine it chirped pretty good.
