[Milsurplus] LM Cloudy Dial Window

Hi Bill,

I've worked on a bunch of BC-221s (not LMs), and I'm guessing that the
plastic in the window lens is probably celluloid. Celluloid has a bad
tendency to warp and cloud up with age (ex. the windows over the
calibration book).  Plastic polish probably won't clear it up, because
it's probably the plastic itself that's deteriorated, not just the
outside finish.  If you have a piece of plastic with a fiducial line and
can cut it to size, That's probably your best bet.

The little rivets holding the plastic to the front panel are about a #2
or #3 in size, and are probably brass.  You might try chopping off the
riveted side behind the panel with a really sharp chisel.  If that will
free up the plastic and frame, then you could probably get some #2 or #3
screws and nuts, hold the nuts with tweezers and try putting the new
window on that way.  Maybe it will work, maybe not, but at least you
tried!  Believe it or not, I've fixed a rotary switch with a burned-off
contact by scrounging a contact from another switch and mounting it with
#0-80 hardware!

If you can't find tiny hardware in your area, try McMaster Carr. They
aren't particularly cheap because you have to buy them in lots, but they
have an amazing inventory.  Get the black oxide phillips screws, and
you'll never be able to tell they weren't original.

Good Luck!
