Very surprising it would use paper and not magnetic. I guess it could be done but seems unintuitive.

---

A good friend of mine who was a long-time ham and collector died a few years ago in Cleveland. His wife has been slowly disposing of his collection to a local ham there, who was his childhood friend.

I was talking with this fellow this afternoon and he told me that one of the items he is unfamiliar with is a paper tape recorder-player that uses tapes about 4 inches in width on 6 inch diameter spools. I was thinking this was something possibly FBIS - RID related but seeing the photo (attached,) it must be naval and possibly early post-war or late wartime. Interestingly, there are cases of unused paper tapes in the garage there,

Do you or the museums possibly have any interest in this? I would hate to see it get deep-sixed. I can give you the guy's phone number if so. He is in his 80's and doesn't have a computer or E-mail.

The tag says "Recorder Reproducer, Sound, RD-115/N and BuShips. He says it records in a crosswise circular pattern or something like that.

Best wishes for the holidays!
