I also have a BC-348 that was also modified for double conversion. It uses a 1mc crystal for the second oscillator to generate the 85kc IF. IIRC, there are three 85kc IFTs.
Does anyone know which ham magazine, month and year that had the conversion article?Jim

Curiouser and curiouser..
kn7sfz That looks like a double conversion IF. The IF cans are 85 kHz from the LF Command Receiver. I assume the extra can wedged in there is 915 kHz and one tube is the converter 915:85 I thought of doing this, some years back, and then thought, nah, live with it as is. One trivia type item: the Squires Sanders SS-IBS and SS-1R have their IF at 1000 kHz. But they get the AM selectivity only thru LC’s at this frequency. The coils in the S.S. receiver are much higher Q than the ones in the BC-348, which are Q about 100+. -Hue Miller
