I currently understand that TBX thru TBX-4 plus TBX-6 are non radium. TBX-4A, TBX-5, and TBX-7, 8
do have a pretty good shot of radium. I think i am keeping so far only one each of 2, 4, 6. For me the radium is a factor but just one factor. I like the older tubes in the receiver and the crazy single 837 xtal / VFO transmitter.
The keys not infrequently show up on Ebay. You may have to fight it out with key collectors but you can gey one. The rainshield is part of the -8 only and i may have the only one out there. About 30 years ago i bought 2 TBX-8 full kit in trunk. One set had the rainshield. I foolishly threw the trunks away and damaged one set.
As for spraying the front panel with anything, despite its recommendation here my opinion is that this is a mickymouse. I do not trust the overspray to not discolor or flake off over time.
In the TBY, thevnon radium models are early ones with pilot lamps 2 in the upper outside corners of the front panel. These are obscured by the overhang of the cabinet sides so to detect them you have to feel for them or tilt thr cabinet to see. I brought back with me from this trip a TBY that my brother didn't want kept at his place, after we Geiger countered some things. In the bag i replaced it with a TBY-1. However that solution is not immediately perfect as the bottom antenna sections are different.
Now that i'm back i need to start educating and equipping myself re the subject of 'radioactivity'.
I also have grey TBY, an overhaul job, and i am *very* curious what that did with the radium content of the original green paint.
