As of early 1946 there were two LF/HF transmitter development contracts for
shipboard and shore station use - TEG and TEJ.

TEG (RCA) includes remote dial-up 10 channel capability similar to the
later AN/URT-2 but is low power only (no booster)

TEJ (Federal) includes the modular concept with optional 500w booster and
also dual transmitter configurations like the URT-2 series. Also with 10
dial up channels and removable drawers requiring extender cables.

The RCA TEG contract was dated March 1945. I don’t know about the Federal
TEJ contract date.

So evidently the TEG (RCA) was a loser and the TEJ project became the
AN/URT-2 series.

It was an ambitious design including a synthesized VFO, autotune RF output,
and autotune antenna tuner - all with remote channel dial-up.

The URT-2 series acquisition contract was dated 1949 and the approval date
in the manual is January 1954. A preliminary manual is dated February 1953.

The AN/SRT-14 series is a simpler (no autotune or remote channel selection)
and more maintainable version of the URT-2 series rhat came along in late
1955.

The URT-2 and SRT-14 series both included a synthesized VFO with AM, CW,
and FSK and 100w output from a 4-400 (or 500w if you added the “booster”
ps/modulator)
