[Milsurplus] They ought to make a movie...

The book "Reliability Factors for Ground Electronic Equipment", edited by K. Henney in 1956 paints a very different picture.   This can be downloaded from:  http://www.tubebooks.org.  It can be found near the bottom of the page.
"...during WW2 up to 60% of the equipment sent to the Far East was damaged upon arrival.  50% of the equipment and spares in storage became unserviceable before it was ever put into use."  And it goes on and on from there and that is just the first chapter!
But I agree, "we are trying to raise the dead & doing a miraculous job of it" by keeping this old equipment working long past it's time.

It was a quality product. It met the requirements at a reasonable cost & saved WWII strategic materials for other more critical applications. I was good engineering. They're parts that have developed problems many decades after they were expected to be, and would have been according to plans, in the trash piles.
Nearly everyone's paper caps suffer the same issues after all that time, & all those carbon comp resistors by nearly every manufacturer are suspects, too.  We are trying to raise the dead & doing a miraculous job of it. LOL

And the name of that movie would be, "The Curse of the Micamold".  I'm sure Micamold never intended their components to last 80 years like just about everybody else's seem to do, but I wonder how much old milsrup would run right out of the box if Micamold made a quality part way back when.
