[Milsurplus] [MMRCG] New RTTY Video

A lot of the later digital RAT stuff has that annoying habit, think the default setting for the UGC-74 is the same where the display or the printer will not print character by character but will wait until they see the carriage return to print the line, so they chug along line at a time and if you don't put the usual boiler plate CR/LF at the end of a sentence it won't be seen.
Have a real love for overly complex systems so this was a fun project to try to use something without gutting it but staying true to its original design.
Don't know what the next project will be just yet. Would love to find another complex item like the UGC-144 or maybe a UGC-129 to play around with. Also have a almost complete GRC-215 set up that got pushed aside for this project and may get back on that but so far I am missing two big parts of that system, the Radio and the modem so that's limiting progress on that front.
Maybe I can do a vacuum tube project? Last good tube project was the FR-38 frequency counter that with its size and weight may classify as one of the more pointless projects.

Maybe we can have a competition to see who can put the most effort into something that's completely obsolete but still can be used today?

Love it! Based on what I saw in the video, am I correct that this only displays one line's worth of text at a time, not character-wise like a mechanical teleprinter? Or was I just not looking carefully?
It is quite cool. You've really inspired me to dust off my gray/plasma terminal and play with it

Subject: [MMRCG] New RTTY Video
In a effort to shamelessly promote my latest YouTube video about the processor that I built to run a old Flaming Arrow messaging terminal on RTTY thought I would put a link to it hear:

It may not look like much but it was around four months work for everything between idea to finished device. May be looking into doing the same thing in the near future using a computer to read, modify and then send data but at this point was way simpler to use discreet components. But have the advantage of now taking a relatively slow 45.5 baud signal and being able to bump it up to 75 or 300 baud without issue. For going the other direction have to deal with the issue of messaging terminals want to do everything off line and once the message is composed ten dumping it as fast as possible, that's going to require some form of storage to get around the slow nature of 60 WPM
Wanted to have the video featuring the military RAT net on Saturday mornings but the propagation gods did not smile on me this weekend and did not hear anyone. There was some sort of RTTY contest up on twenty so that provided people to copy.
