I have an Air Corps Technical School booklet:
on the SCR-AG-183, originally dated in Feb of 1939,
but looks like it was reprinted in May of 1940.

One page carries the following:

"In the drawer of the bench you will also find Coil Set, type
C-168, (which is not a part of this set), but is supplied for student
use because more stations are available within its frequency range."

Goes on to say that the student will get a better idea of A.V.C. and
M.V.C. operation at these frequencies.

So, it appears that some of these coils were indeed supplied.
