[Milsurplus] Clandestine RBO receivers?

Thinking of 'protected meters': the ONLY meters on radio equipment that I have seen were provided with
protection are the ammeters on the BC-148 and BC-156 radios. The meter faces have a metal cover with only
a tiny cutout for viewing the pointer. Maybe other radios could have used something, a screen or something, 
because I have seen lots of radios with the meter glass pushed in.
