[Milsurplus] ADF whip antenna

Hello Kurt,

Unfortunately I have not been able to find a lot of details about the whip
antenna. Just some basic information that gives the length as 55.5 inches in
length. If anyone has any photos or other details please let me know.
Anything is appreciated.

I believe that these were used in early ADF/Radio Compass installations and
they gave way to the more common wire stretched between two short masts. 

The antenna was removeable and as can be seen there was a spare in the
aircraft as well. I recall seeing an early B-29 that had one too and it was
removed for landing and stowed in clips on the side wall of the aft
fuselage. I think they may have had a D shaped handle on the end presumably
to turn and lock it in the mount. I am guessing that the mount was likely
phenolic for insulation and may be about 5 inched in diameter. Purely
guessing at this point.
