That is a beautiful radio, one of my favorites in my collection. Hoping to get some stories from the users of the aircraft versions of this.
Hard to imagine an F-14 using a manpack radio, except maybe for a radio take with you in case of a bailout!

Hi I have one manufactured from Rockwell International in working conditions with PRC-47 battery box and original mains power-supply, the only thing that I don't have is the tuning coil for low frequencies. I bought on E-bay from Israel and the seller said me that was on-board of an F-14 overhauled after I Gulf War. 73 de Federico IZ1FID

Re: Collins ARC-174/718U

Curious if anyone is running this radio. Have you guys cabled it all up? Do you run the rockwell version or the collins? Do you run one of the gas discharge control boxes or mechanical version?

I have the manpack version of this. Pix of my 718U-1 below. I have yet to play with mine and yet I am quite enamored with it. When I purchased it a few years ago, seller said it worked but the tuner did not tune. It is on my list for bench time. I started reading more about its lineage and the whole 718/ARC-174 family. I wonder why more people don't install aircraft radios in vehicles? There would seem to be a lot to be gained. Generally small size, light, and remotely controlled.
