[Milsurplus] The Speed of Google

I bought the German language book because it will help me learn. I did look it up tho by author, and the book is
available in translation. If someone here acquires it and remembers, I am interested in how "Loeschfunkensender"
is translated. My best take is that it means quenched - gap spark transmitters, not just spark transmitters in general.

Now I'll tell you something creepier.
I was this morning reading in N. Y. Times a review of a Netflix doc about the "Night Stalker" serial murderer from the
1980s. I didn't know how he was captured. I myself wouldn't spend 4 hours of my life to watch a series on an insane
murderer, but I wanted to learn how he died in prison. So I went to Google, typed in "Richard", and lo and behold,
autofill suggested the rest: "Ramirez". At first I thought, "!!!! I was only just now thinking that name in the newspaper !!!"
which shocked me. But now a few minutes later I realized, with this series now running, maybe there are a whole lot
of searches for that name. Anyway he had existing medical problems and died of lymphoma in prison while waiting
through the decades long appeal and dither process. So the Devil called in his debt early and R.R. got to meet his hero.
There was a referenced article in the 'Telegraph' U.K. about women who "love" imprisoned serial murderers, but the
article required me "registering for 24 hours free account", which I ain't doing.

Greatly off topic, sorry, but the first three sentences are actually germane to the subject. ( No pun intended. ) The book
has many references to radio and passive Sonar, so it may be interesting to some readers here.

Hue's interesting post about the quote from the German U boat logbook, made me go on a hunt for it since I am a sucker for historical information like this, and a real book to read it from. I copied and pasted the German title in the Duck Duck Go search bar, and it immediately displayed a Google link direct to Hue's post, verbatim as he typed it, in the clear, with no indication it came from the milsurp list. It is downright scary what comes up when you put in your own phone number, your call sign, your name. George Orwell must have been a time traveler writing about our future.
