I have a GRC-9 with the receiver had a missing nameplate. Well, actually there was a nameplate
hanging by one screw. So what problem with that? Well, the receiver was apparently an early one,
with a less wide nameplate held by 2 screws, not four. The nameplate hanging on the front by one
screw was the larger 4-hole model. Looks like someone in the past was flummoxed when he
discovered this discrepancy. The transmitter above it is a mismatched, later model. Very odd.
Anyway, Richard Brunner AA1P very kindly made me a replica plate. This is a paper copy, laminated.
The only possible discrepancy is that it's more shiny than you would expect for its age. I assume then
that this is a 1946 receiver, a Rauland, the originator of the family with the SCR-694, TRC-2. This is
the earliest receiver I have seen in about 20 GRC-9 I have viewed live. I understand there's a fellow
in France who does replica metal nameplates, but this got it done promptly, not in weeks or months.
A note if you try this: be damn sure the holes in your replica line up exactly, otherwise you'll
experience many frustrating minutes. I had boxed this set up, preparing to sell it, but as with everything,
once I handle it a bit, turn some knobs, it gets harder to let it go, so I need to go thru the whole
decision process again. Even tho the back looks like it slid around in the back of truck for a while, it's
still a lovable example. All the dial locks are still there, a plus.
Thank you indeed, Richard, for the very kind favor !
