Agreed, Mike. But the APS-13 unless I am mistaken, uses something like 2x 6J6 as the power oscillator
and diode receiver – or am I wrong, and it's a super with 30 MHz IF ? I don't recall now, and I'm not
going to look for the schematic. Of course in those days, the supply of otherwise useless military
avionic equipment seemed boundless, and guys had to figure out what to do with it.
In an electronics class many years ago, one project individual 2-student pairs built was a microwave
transmitter and receiver using the 2K25. That was fun, seeing how much the human body would block
the signal across the room. I did get one hell of a shock too, when I got across some B+ voltage, one of
those shocks you remember. -Hue Miller
