Back around 1962 or so I had a sig gen using a 2K25 and it also had a built in 1KHz modulation. This of course was on X band. I also had a piece of waveguide with a 1N21 diode in it. I connected headphones to the diode and was able to hear the generator. I positioned the generator’s WG output out the window and went outside. I was able to go about 1000 feet and still hear the generator, just WG to WG, no horns. I could not go further because of landscape physical limitations. You do not need much power as you may think. On one of the systems I worked on for the military, I was able to send data to a geo satellite using less than a watt with an 8 foot dish and still achieve a very good BER. This was at about 30 GHZ up and around 21 GHz down. 73 – Mike

That reminds me. Somewhere I have either an APN-1 or APS-13 converted to a, yes, ham radio transceiver.
I think it has a labeled microphone connector on the front. Looking at the schematic, you have to wonder how
in AM voice mode it could work more than a quarter mile. I thought the thing deserved to be saved, but I will
want to find a new owner for it. -Hue Miller
