Subject: [Milsurplus] Patron Saint of Amateur Radio

Today is the feast day of Father Maximillian Kolbe, the Catholic Church's patron saint of amateur radio. A Polish priest, Kolbe sheltered Jewish refugees and used his amateur radio station to condemn the Nazis. His activities soon earned him a spot in the Auschwitz concentration camp. When the Nazis chose 10 prisoners at random to be executed after a prisoner had escaped, Kolbe volunteered to take the place of one of the condemned men: a young husband and father. Kolbe died on August 14, 1941.

A pretty impressive guy.
