the vrc12 ops manual tm11-5820-401-12 from 1972 and sb11-131 vehicular radio sets and installations kits list a vrc55 which is a vrc46 and grc19 the grc19 installation kit for an m151 uses a mk-1281 installation kit and the vrc55 kit is mk-1390. the kit includes a c2299 retrans control which evidental meant there was retrans between hf am and vhf fm. anyone ever see an install drawing or other info on this? jeff n2ia

Having a working GRC-19 in a M-38 would be a site to see and you can impress the locals running 100 watts of real plate modulated AM on 3885. Don’t know if the GRC-19 went as far as the M-151 but may have.

Also like you said the alternator that I have in there is a 60 amp it may not be enough ooomph for the T1 95 unless it is the solid-state supply

>> I had a ARC-73 before and the only issue is that it just moves in 50 KHz steps so things like 146.52 are a problem because it will only do 146.50 or 146.55 but its AM so what, not like you are going to do repeaters and the like. 144.20, 25 and .30 are good for playing around with AM. You can also use it for monitoring things like the ATIS weather stuff at the local airports being a lot of that stuff that’s been on the air forever is still on those channels. Civil Aviation went to 25 KHz spacing years ago and now they will be migrating to 8.25 KHz or something strange like that so expect to see lots of aircraft stuff surplus soon.
>> Most of the military stuff has moved over to digital short space so that’s why you see a lot of those huge rack mount VHF/UHF ITT and General Dynamics transmitters and receivers on the surplus market.
>> My son in law was a ground radio tech (E5) at Langley and he did a lot of the swap for removing and installing the ground stuff at Langley and a couple other military installations around there. Last year though he transferred out to las Vegas and is now out there.
>> The GRC-19 set would be fun installed in a M-38 just that you will need the biggest alternator you can find and will have larger cables between the transmitter and battery then you need for the starter. Think that’s the same radio that they use to use as the AM net control radio up at Gilbert so it’s a good working radio and that’s hard to find with a GRC-19.
>> What are you thinking about the Aberdeen MVPA thing moving out to Hagerstown? Sussex is the weekend just before that show and on the fence about if I should blow off Aberdeen/Hagerstown and go to Sussex instead. The issue there is that the people over at Aberdeen have also been good about giving me free spaces and all that and have no idea what would be involved with Sussex but considering the massive amount of money it will cost to drag the mutt up the Turnpike don’t want to be spending on a show space.
>> Ran up to Main with Bernie a couple weeks back and it was like $50 for the turnpike and another $50 just to cross the god dam GW Bridge so on the way back we went around NY just to avoid that dam bridge again.
>> Am planning on another trip back up there next week and may be dragging back a S-280 shelter for the back yard.
