Ray, what is it about the early models TBX that you prefer?
I like that they have the connectors both grouped on left side of radio, seems more
logical and tidy. Also I like the white faced meters more. I have not used the -8 type
transmitter, but I have never like the substantial relay clack when using mil radios
with break-in.
I suspect the -2 model, which I have, maybe does not have radium paint, as the control
markings are noticeably "narrow" lines, not "fatter" characters. I don't have a working
radiac right now to verify that. The fellow I got this from, said he'd used it on 80M,
even with the 837 tube in VFO mode, no problem.
For some reason, I just like the way filamentary - type battery tubes "sound". Can't put my finger
exactly on why. If you listen when they power up, you can hear the filament "uncrinkle", at least
with the 1.5 volt ones, others, not sure.
I have a couple handcrank generators too, but without cranks, oh my. If anyone has a
suggestion for a replacement, I would appreciate.
