Group,I have 4 or 5 late 1940s radios in my collection; they are quite good radios once they are recapped, usually having either 2 IF amps or an RF amp and the usual compliment of ~1.5 volt tubes. Sensitivity and selectivity were pretty good. Zenith and others used similar cases for their 3 WAY PORTABLES; (Battery, AC & DC powered).
To get the sets operative,  I replace the 117Z3 series, rectifiers with a IN4007 diode and dropping resistor for the filaments to get the A supply to ~1.4 volts and another to get the B+ to ~90 volts.
ONE WARNING !!! These sets have have one side of the filaments and the B- connected to  the 115 VAC power line. BE CAREFUL, STUDY the schematics and don't get yourself fried !!! I ALWAYS USE A ISOLATION TRANSFORMER WHEN WORKING ON THESE SETS AND ALSO THE "ALL AMERICAN FIVE" sets
