Hue,

I read they had to stop a rescue effort NE of Fresno, CA due to smoke. Also noticed I can smell some here in Seattle which reminds me of two summers ago.

Tonite the sunset was blotted out by smokey grey skies from fires 60 to 200 miles away. High winds are downing trees and power on Hwy 101. NPR radio stations are having emergency evacuation orders for Flynn Rock and Otis OR. Meanwhile at this moment 2 crew from FV Legend are exiting the vessel in survival suits to make their way to shore, where a beach team will try to get them. I'm hearing this on VHF 22. Coast Guard said high winds and smoke prevented chopper from air rescue, and boat was on rocks breaking up, too shallow for CG rescue boat to reach, so will try for beach rescue. Captain of FV sounded remarkably composed for someone in that position. CG will try to track them in dark by flashing beacon strobe on survival suit. My oh my, what a night.
