Just a guess from looking at the pics, both have a rubber gasket as part of their base, so it will fit flush on the fuselage. That segmented pin looks like it may be in a 'lock' position with the rod flush with the end, forcing the segments apart. The hole on the side is on the same side as the segmented section and might be the spot you drive home the center rod to lock the antenna in place. Attaches the same way as some of the blind hole mounts for a car that spreads the fingers on the underside of where you drilled a hole and pulled tight to hold the mount in place. Of course, my guess is probably as accurate as my lottery ticket purchases, so don't take it to the bank. The SCR522 VHF antenna was nothing more than a wooden tube, carved for aerodynamics. The sheetmetal base has holes to secure it to the fuselage, and holes for the wood screws used on the wood. A hole drilled down the center of the wood held a piece of insulated wire 1/4 wavelength long, that was attached to an SO239 at its base. A rubber gasket in the same oval shape as the base was used for weather seal. The aluminum panels used, while thin and flimsy as stock material, once it is attached to the ribs of the air frame, and curved to fit, the panel space between the ribbing becomes amazingly rigid, like the aluminum is 1/4 in thick, so the antenna had a very solid surface to hold onto.
