If you could sell the HMZL34OKM for $1000s here, there would be a great business opportunity
buying them in Europe and selling them on Ebay U.S. 
I think the bandswitching is something like the National NC-100 series. I should know this. 
"Morale receiver" is a very poor guess. German "morale radios" were definitely of a lower quality
of construction and  most tried to minimize use of metal and components. As to "moral radio",
that is still a subject of controversy.
