I think that description was written by Tom Knietel, who opined on a lot of such equipment but as far as I have read, only owned one Command Sets receiver.
His goal was primarily entertainment, less education. When he talks about sorting out all the tuning sections, you can tell he doesn't actually  know the equipment,
he's going by what he might have heard in chitchat.
When I think back many years to the time I carried a BC-653 transmitter from a shop to my car, I have to shake my head in wonder, no permanent damage done to
me or the equipment.
