[Milsurplus] FW: Earphone cushions question

Today I was getting a couple Heil headsets ready to put on Ebay. On the HC-5, I
replaced headphone 3 items in this order: a thin foam disc that goes right up
against the earphone element face; the rubber earphone "earpads" ( = cushions,
which also hold this foam disc down ( and are a challenge to stretch around the
perimeter of the earpiece ); and the "earpad covers", which are a kind of elastic
rimmed sock that pulls over the whole earphone element, open at back for wire
lead escape.
The experience popped an idea into my head: are any of these Heil replacement
parts adaptable to military headsets, say like the USAAF headphones or the TBY
headphone, for example?
What think?
It comes to me now that the Heil elements have a thin rim, outer edge which
is quite a bit different from antique headphones. After my struggle putting
those on the HC-5, I am not going to take them off again now to explore their
use with older earphones.
I sent the below note to the 'DX Store' dxstore.com
I would probably be silly enough to buy a selection and try them. If none of the
cushions happen to work out, even the "sock" covers would be an improvement
over naked earphone, and also limit the soiling of the headphone.
( Sorry, 'soiling' is an antiquated word from an OT. )

Letter sent to DX Store:

"Say, this will be kind of an oddball question.
I just put on new ear cushions and so on, on a Heil HC-5 set.
The cushions got me to thinking: I have a number of WW2 military earphone sets whose
cushions are no longer available, and the old ones, even if NOS, are most often stiff and
cracked. So I am wondering if maybe some of your Heil replacements would be suitable
for this use. I suppose the only way to really check this is to buy an assortment and just
try them all out. The HC-5 types I used today definitely won't do, as they have an oblong
shape, while the military earpieces are all round an d with a diameter of 2-1/4 to 2-1/2 inches.
What think? Any thoughts on the adaptability?"
