Here is a fun video of a Norwegian ham trying out a WWII German spy - type radio in some
very scenic settings. The radio construction is what you might call 'biscuit tin style'. Not
entirely explained is that his ancillary equipment includes a storage battery and inverter
for the AC requirement of the radio. Also instead of the issue headphone he is using an
external speaker and an antenna switchbox. The radio has itself no means of switching
antennas for receive - transmit turns and the output circuit, just a tapped coil, has minimal
harmonic suppression. He says he stayed out there one night, but his pack is pretty well
taken up with the radio gear, so his buddy, the videographer, must have been carrying other
supplies.

The radio is a one tube transmitter using a tube similar maybe to 50C5. The receiver is
3 valves with the first doing RF amp and reflexed first audio and regenerative detector. In
the old times way of describing the circuit, 1-V-2.

When you see this fellow's radio room you get the idea that he's an all-in fanatic for WWII
German equipment.

I have the same model radio, obtained from a veteran who took it from the team he
investigated. In that case, near the end of the war, the radio's owners were not shot - they
were just sent into the general POW pen.
