I'd not be surprised that it would take time for moisture to escape from a solid like bakelite even when warmed. Personally, I'd be afraid of 220F+ temps on the chance that steam escaping quickly (or trying to) could do some damage. But if others haven't seen any such occurrence maybe that's just a touch of over-thinking it.
