I suppose the most accurate ( and unwieldy ) name would be "air and mica trimmers", since both are the dielectric.
Yes, you can pull apart the postage stamp sized trimmers. I have a slug of them in the 800 pF range, all removed from
boat radios where they were the low Z side of the pi-net. I wanted to get them down to say, 150 pF and this was quite
easy to do. Also if you need small pieces of mica, this is one source.
