On Saturday November the 21st and Sunday the 22nd we will be having the annual Able Archer 83 W3A event. This year we will be operating from the Fort Miles facility located in Delaware's Cape Henlopen State park.
The relevance or connection to Fort Miles and Able Archer 83 is that from the early sixties until its decommissioning in the early eighties the Navy operated a SOSUS operation from that location at what was then known as NAVFAC Lewes.
I will be dragging the mutt (M-151A1) there and intend to operate both the MMRCG and the M&S nets from the mutt and am also looking at doing RTTY 850Hz shift on 7080 using the event call "W3A" and would like to know what interest there is with maybe doing a TTY net at 1400 or 1500 hours local?
Also, this can be an opportunity to do a backpack or field exercise on Sunday? Will have equipment for 51.0, 5357 (USB) and 3885 AM portable and if we can get anyone to get out of there house and come to the park maybe you can put all this equipment you have for field operation to use in the field.
Cape Henlopen State park is around six thousand acres with miles of trails, camping, fishing and the beaches along with the Fort Miles complex where in addition to visiting AA83 you can visit the artillery park, see the 16" gun from the Missouri or take a tour of the battery 519 bunker, they do beat you down for $5 for the bunker tour. That's all operated by the Historical group and we don't have anything to do with them so can't get you in for free.
If there is any interest in doing a field exercise lets try to work out what frequencies and times would be best, we got two weeks to get ready for this, its all an outdoor covid safe activity and if we can get at least one or two more people to come out I will bring out my field gear and take part.
