Thanks ! The QST articles referred to this earlier 73 Magazine article.  I think all 3 articles are worth reading. 
The 73 article must be kind of early in FET history, as he's a little surprised that IGFETs ( MOSFET ) are a little different from JFETs. 
Odd, but this topic, and these articles I was just exposed to today, have decided me to keep at least one LM, the one I have in the
metal portable carry case, and probably the TS-169, and....maybe.....the URM-32...
