Thought this photo might be of interest.

Standing, Sam Lococo, joined Navy at 20 years of age, "shipped out to South Pacific....

he was part of a team that sent out whaleboats to rescue these [ crashed Japanese ]

pilots."



"The Japanese had been taught that the Americans were savages, so probably he was

afraid of us....he kept saying in English, 'You are going to kill me' ".

"They pulled him from the sea, dressed his wounds in sick bay, and transferred him to

the USS Lexington."



Sam Lococo died April 16 from COVID19.



Photo below: unnamed class ship. Radio at right with handle, is that TCS or a large

transmitter? Also what is the ??LAC above the hatchway?
