Something I learned about B17 wiring, there actually was a mute bypass for the BC348. If you look at pictures of the original installation of the BC348 in B17 on the table, the key is screwed down to the table, and near it, either on a metal plate cut into the table top, or near the back edge is a toggle switch. This was the unmute switch so the operator could key his BC375 and find it on the BC348 or tune it to where the BC348 was tuned. The B17 carried a BC221, stored in a canvas bag behind the pilots seat. Guess it was not used a lot.
