I was last night looking at the manual for a Northern Radio ( Seattle ) model boat radio, one last look to assay if it was worth trying to convert for ham band use, and I saw the manual listed some of its crystals as CR-27, so I had to look this up in 73 Magazine "Special Surplus Issue", June '67. The article I referred to said his tabulation was extracted from a military text which listed a full 69 different holders.

"The information contained in the tables was derived from the "D" revision of the Military Specification MIL-C-3098, "General Specification for Quartz Crystal Units". 
That would be an interesting ( to some of us anyway ) document to see.
